Pricing & Trim Levels
How much does the 2026 Ram 2500 cost?
Pricing varies significantly based on configuration, but here is the general hierarchy for the 2026 model year:
- Tradesman (Starts $46,485): The workhorse. Vinyl seats, steel wheels, and maximum payload focus.
- Big Horn (Starts $50,480): The volume seller. Adds chrome accents, cloth seating, and more available tech packages.
- Laramie (Starts $62,185): The entry to luxury. Leather heated seats, 12-inch touchscreen, and expanded safety features.
- Rebel (Starts $69,680): The off-road all-rounder. Available with Gas or Diesel.
- Power Wagon (Starts $72,880): The ultimate gas off-roader. Hemi V8 only.
- Limited (Starts $74,245): The executive hauler. Premium leather, power running boards, and blind-spot monitoring for trailers.
Notes: Configurations for pricing include 4×2 with base cab and box for a specific zip code based on Manufacturers website. Adding the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine typically adds $9,500 to the price of any compatible trim.
What is the difference between the Ram 2500 Rebel and Power Wagon?
This is the #1 question for off-road enthusiasts.
- Ram 2500 Power Wagon: Strictly a rock crawler. It comes only with the 6.4L Hemi V8. It features front and rear locking differentials, an electronic disconnecting front sway bar for massive articulation, and a factory-installed 12,000-lb WARN® winch. However, its soft suspension reduces its towing and payload capacity.
- Ram 2500 Rebel: An off-roader that can still tow heavy. It is available with either the Hemi V8 or the Cummins Diesel. It has a rear locker and skid plates but lacks the front locker and disconnecting sway bar. It maintains higher towing and payload ratings than the Power Wagon.
Engine & Capabilities
Which engine has more payload: Gas or Diesel?
Surprisingly, the 6.4L Hemi V8 offers higher payload capacity (weight in the bed). The Cummins diesel engine is incredibly heavy (nearly 1,000 lbs heavier than the gas engine), which eats into the truck’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
- Choose Hemi: If you haul heavy slide-in campers or pallets of stone in the bed.
- Choose Cummins: If you tow heavy trailers (15,000+ lbs). The diesel’s massive torque (850 lb-ft) moves trailers much easier than the gas engine.
Does the 2026 Ram 2500 require DEF fluid?
Yes, if you choose the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel. You will need to refill the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank roughly every oil change interval, depending on how heavy you tow. The 6.4L Hemi V8 is a gas engine and does not require DEF.
What is the fuel tank size on the Ram 2500?
Fuel range is critical for towing.
- Crew Cab (6’4″ Box): 31-gallon tank.
- Regular Cab / Crew Cab (8′ Box): 32-gallon tank.
- Mega Cab: 33-gallon tank.
- Pro Tip: A 50-gallon fuel tank is available as an option on Crew Cab models with the 8-foot long bed.
Ownership & Maintenance
Is the Ram 2500 expensive to maintain?
Maintenance costs depend heavily on your engine choice.
- Hemi V8: Comparable to a standard pickup. Oil changes and spark plugs are standard fare.
- Cummins Diesel: Higher maintenance cost. You must change two fuel filters every 15,000 miles and use 12 quarts of synthetic oil per change. However, the engine typically lasts much longer than a gas counterpart, offering higher resale value.
Can I order a Ram 2500 with a manual transmission?
No. All 2026 Ram 2500 trucks come with an automatic transmission. The gas models use the ZF 8-Speed Automatic, while the diesel models use the heavy-duty 6-Speed Automatic.
What is the warranty on the 2026 Ram 2500?
- Basic Limited Warranty: 3 Years / 36,000 Miles.
- Gas Powertrain Warranty: 5 Years / 60,000 Miles.
- Diesel Powertrain Warranty: 5 Years / 100,000 Miles.
