With the 4xe plug-in hybrid departing the lineup for 2026, the engine choices for the 2026 Jeep Wrangler have become simpler. But choosing the right one is still critical for how you plan to use your Jeep.
At Sidney CDJR, we know that a daily driver needs different specs than a dedicated rock crawler. Should you stick with the classic V6, or is the Turbo 4-cylinder actually better for towing? And what is the deal with the new “Moab 392”?
Here is the complete breakdown of the 2026 powertrain options.
The 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4 (The Torque King)
Don’t let the cylinder count fool you. This engine is now the standard torque leader for the non-V8 lineup. It uses a twin-scroll turbocharger to deliver peak power much lower in the RPM band than the V6.
Horsepower: 270 hp
Torque: 295 lb-ft
Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic Only
Best For: Daily driving and towing. The turbo torque makes it feel punchier at stoplights and helps maintain speed on I-75 without the transmission constantly downshifting.
The 3.6L Pentastar® V6 (The Old Reliable)
This is the legendary engine that has powered the Wrangler for over a decade. It is naturally aspirated, meaning there is no turbo lag—just smooth, linear power.
Horsepower: 285 hp
Torque: 260 lb-ft
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual or 8-Speed Automatic
Best For: Purists and off-road technical crawling.
Why? It is the only engine available with a Manual Transmission. If you want to row your own gears, this is your only choice. It also runs cooler at low speeds since it lacks the heat-generating turbocharger.
The 6.4L Hemi® V8 (Rubicon 392 & Moab 392)
For 2026, Jeep has expanded the V8 availability with the new Moab 392 edition. This engine transforms the Wrangler from a trail rig into a muscle car.
Horsepower: 470 hp
Torque: 470 lb-ft
0-60 Time:5 seconds
Updates: The new “Moab 392” trim offers this engine at a slightly more accessible price point than the fully-loaded Rubicon 392, featuring unique decals and a body-color hardtop.

Which Engine Should You Buy?
Choose the 2.0L Turbo if: You want the best MPG and passing power for highway commuting. It feels faster in daily traffic than the V6.
Choose the 3.6L V6 if: You want a manual transmission or plan to keep the Jeep for 15+ years. The simpler design is easier to wrench on in your own garage.
Choose the 6.4L V8 if: Budget is no issue and you want the ultimate factory off-roader with a soundtrack to match.
